Lab 6 - Biochemicals, Nutrition, and Health

Materials:

  •  Carbohydrates
    • test tube racks, hot plate, 400 ml beaker, 3 test tubes,
      onion juice, potato juice, Benedict's  Reagent, distilled water
      test tube racks, 3 test tubes, onion juice, potato juice,
      Lugol's Iodine, distilled water 
  • Fats and Lipids
    • Sudan III, extracts of flour, cream, coconut, margarine, filter paper,
      pencils, dedicated Pasteur Pipet, water bath 
  • Proteins
    • Biuret's Agent, egg white, chicken broth, distilled water, test tubes,
      test tube rack, CuSO4, wax pencils
  • Common Foods
    • Gelatin, Lite and Regular Pancake Syrup, Instant and Ground Coffee,
      honey, olive oil, peanut oil, candy
  • Digital Blood Pressure Monitor
  • Finger Pulse Oximeter
Exercises:
  • We will learn about food nutrition, proteins, fats, carbohydrates
  • We will be learning about physiology, cardiovascular experimentation
  • Blood pressure, human pulse, oxygen saturation
